The Graduate Certificate in Online Teaching and Learning will teach you how to use the research, theories and best practices in instructional design, multimedia message design, learner engagement and instructor presence so you can design, develop, implement, evaluate and manage technology-driven learning experiences. Complete the program ready to design learning programs for K-12 education, higher education, business and industry, healthcare, military and other settings.
The credits you earn in the Online Teaching and Learning Graduate Certificate program may be applied to the M.Ed. in Instructional Design and Performance Technology if you decide to pursue the full degree.

Courses and Requirements
UWF’s online Graduate Certificate in Online Teaching and Learning program includes nine credit hours and can be completed in just two semesters.

3 Credit Hours
Distance Learning Implementation
Integrates theory and best practices to explore and develop skills for developing and implementing effective education and training environments delivered via distance learning media. Students will focus on the principles and practices that are research-based and result in quality distance learning experiences, and students will explore technologies available to support and distribute distance learning and the considerations unique to distance learning. The course focuses heavily on online environments, and it emphasizes application of the best practices by enabling students to develop and implement their own instructional lessons that are delivered via distance learning technologies.

Distance Learning Policy and Planning
Examines the history of distance learning and the principles, policies and issues related to the design, development, implementation and administration of distance learning courses and programs in various settings. Issues related to technology, teaching, learning, assessment and faculty and student preparation will be considered from both theoretical and practical perspectives.

New technology and approaches to teaching and learning evolve and revolutionize how professionals approach technology integration. Explore how innovation and new technologies can be used in instructional strategies to promote performance and learning.

Admission Requirements
To be considered for admission to the University of West Florida’s Online Teaching and Learning Graduate Certificate program, you must be admitted to the University as either a degree-seeking or non-degree-seeking graduate student.
How to Apply
To begin the online Graduate Certificate program in Online Teaching and Learning, interested students need to fill out a Graduate Non-degree, or Degree-Seeking Application. Once accepted, students should contact the College of Education and Professional Studies Advising Center and speak to an advisor about course availability and scheduling. Then, complete the online Graduate Certificate Declaration Form on MyUWF.

The median wage for all instructional coordinators in 2021 was $63,740 a year, with those working in government earning a median income of $100,790.
Training and Development Specialists
Training and development specialists assess training needs through surveys and interviews with staff so they can design and create training manuals, online learning opportunities and delivery methods. Their job growth rate is expected to be faster than average between 2021 and 2031 at 8%. The median wage for all training and development specialists in 2021 was $61,570 a year, with those working in professional, scientific and technical services earning a median income of $77,280.
Training and Development Managers
Training and development managers oversee a staff of training specialists to create training programs that align with the organization’s goals. They create and manage the training budget and teach new methods and skills to junior staff members. Their job growth rate is expected to be faster than average between 2020 and 2030 at 11%. The median wage for all training and development managers in 2021 was $120,130 a year, with those working in professional, scientific and technical services earning a median income of $132,020.
