The online Information Security Management certificate program from the University of West Florida explores the non-technical aspects of information security to prepare you to make well-informed management and administrative decisions in a variety of roles within the industry.
Taught by expert educators with extensive information security experience, the program examines field essentials, including compliance management, security education training and awareness (SETA) programs and encryption technologies. As you complete the program, you’ll also build a strong understanding of e-business systems fundamentals and gain expertise in risk analysis concepts as they pertain to information security.
The Information Security Management certificate can be completed within one year through an interactive online classroom. As an online student, you’ll have the freedom to access course materials on your time and discuss coursework with educators when it’s convenient for your personal schedule.

e-Business Systems Fundamentals
Use and application of information system technology in the business environment, with emphasis on the fundamental e-Business models, technology concepts and systems used to enable and conduct electronic business. Concepts include the components of an I.S., the systems development process, the functions of the various types of communication networks, hardware, and software, including practical, hands-on projects designed to enhance e-Business analytical skills. Prerequisite: Completion of 45 hours of college course work is required prior to taking this course.

Information Security in the modern organization is both a management and a technology issue. Course recognizes that technology alone cannot address all the security issues; Prepares students for management and control of security of information systems in organizations; prepares students to make informed decisions regarding administration of information security infrastructure. Prerequisite: ISM 3011 OR COP 2253

Business Data Communication
Explores the technology and management concepts, issues and decisions related to the infrastructure required to support end-to-end, partner-to-partner electronic business processes required to support end-to-end, partner-to-partner electronic business processes. Additionally, the course provides an overview of basic network management and security concepts. Offered concurrently with ISM 4483; graduate students will be assigned additional work. Prerequisite: ISM 3011
- ISM 4320 - Legal, Ethical, and Human Aspects of Cybersecurity

Legal, Ethical, and Human Aspects of Cybersecurity
This course address the human facets of cybersecurity. Coverage will include ethics, legal and regulatory environment, psychology, and hacker culture. The focus will be on the human element and the motivation and deterrence of cyber-crimes. Offered concurrently with ISM 5327; graduate students will be assigned additional work. Prerequisite: ISM 3011

Admission Requirements
To be considered for admission to the University of West Florida’s online Information Security Management Certificate program, you must be admitted to the University as a degree or non-degree-seeking graduate student.
How to Apply
To begin a certificate program, interested students need to fill out an undergraduate application. Once accepted as an undergraduate non-degree seeking student, you should contact the College of Business, speak to an advisor about course availability and scheduling and complete the online Undergraduate Certificate Declaration Form on MyUWF.

Tuition waivers cover up to 90 percent of the non-resident portion of your tuition and are available to non-Florida residents (including international students) admitted to online programs and registered for online courses in active pursuit of that degree or certificate. You must pay all other assessed tuition and fees.
Time to completion varies by student, depending on individual progress. Fees are charged per semester unless otherwise noted. This program takes up to two semesters to complete, depending on course availability.

Alabama Differential Out-of-State Tuition
Residents of Alabama are eligible for Alabama Differential Tuition, a reduced out-of-state tuition rate. For more information and to verify residency status for tuition purposes, new undergraduate students should contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and new graduate students should contact the Graduate School. Current enrolled students should contact the Office of the Registrar.
Active Duty Military
All active-duty members of the Armed Forces who are residing or are stationed outside the state of Florida shall have all (100%) out-of-state fees waived by the university. Contact the Military and Veterans Resource Center (MVRC) to apply for the Active Duty Military Out-of-State Waiver.
