With a Human Resources Management Certificate from the University of West Florida, you will be able to advance to leadership positions in human resources or pursue advanced degrees in business and administration. Learning from expert faculty in the College of Business, you will study the complex relationships between human resources and organizational hierarchy. Through active learning experiences, you will practice evaluating pay, incentives, compensation and benefits. Additionally, you will conduct efficient and ethical interviews and develop an employee training program.
This certificate is only available to graduate non-degree seeking students. Undergraduates or degree-seeking students cannot pursue this certificate. The Graduate Certificate in Human Resources Management is not available to MBA students pursuing an emphasis in human resources management.

Courses and Requirements
Once all prerequisites are met, this certificate requires completion of the following courses with a C or better. Participants must secure a combined grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the course required by the certificate.
Candidates are expected to have completed the equivalent of one of the following UWF courses:

MBA Foundations: Principles of Human Resources Management
A course in the Accelerated MBA Foundations Series in which students are introduced to the basic functions of human resource management, including employment law, planning, job analysis, recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management, compensation and benefits, employee and labor relations, safety and health, and international human resource management.

Human Resources Management
Introduction to personnel administration; emphasis on the basic personnel function of both the personnel specialist and the operating manager. Critical issues stressed include selection, compensation, OSHA, EEO, unions and discipline. Prerequisite: Completion of 45 hours of college course work is required prior to taking this course.

Compensation and benefits play an important role in attracting, motivating, and retaining employees. This course examines how to establish and manage effective compensation and benefits systems that support the organization?s strategic direction while also meeting employee needs and complying with legal requirements. Offered concurrently with MAN 4330; graduate students will be assigned additional work. Graduate student status is required.

Employees are commonly recognized as an organization?s most valuable resource. Thus, effectively staffing an organization is one of the most critical managerial responsibilities. This course examines best practices, current trends, legal issues, and research on effective recruitment and selection of human capital so that students may learn how to establish and effectively manage staffing systems. Offered concurrently with MAN 4350; graduate students will be assigned additional work. Graduate student status is required.

Strategic Issues in Human Resources Management
Integrates current research, best practices, human resource policy and strategy in order to maximize organizational effectiveness using human capital. Emphasis is placed on applying strategic human resource management principles in order to leverage the workforce to achieve organizational objectives. Case analyses using real business problems are analyzed by integrating the functional areas of human resource management with business strategies, helping students to understand the linkage between theory and practice.

Employees are commonly recognized as an organization?s most valuable resource. Thus, ensuring that employees achieve and maintain their highest performance is one of the most critical managerial responsibilities. This course examines best practices, current trends, legal issues, and research in change management, organizational development, performance management, and training so that students may learn how to effectively manage human capital for optimal performance. Offered concurrently with MAN 4341; graduate students will be assigned additional work. Graduate student status is required.

Admission Requirements
To be considered for admission to the University of West Florida’s online Human Resources Management Certificate program, you must be admitted to the University as a graduate non-degree-seeking student.
How to Apply
Once accepted as a graduate non-degree-seeking student, students should contact the MBA department and speak to an advisor about course availability and scheduling. Then, new students should complete the online Graduate Certificate Declaration Form on MyUWF.

Tuition waivers cover up to 90% of the non-resident portion of your tuition and are available to non-Florida residents (including international students) admitted to online programs and registered for online courses in active pursuit of that degree or certificate. You must pay all other assessed tuition and fees.
Time to completion varies by student, depending on individual progress and course availability. Fees are charged per semester unless otherwise noted. This program takes up to 12 months to complete.

Residents of Alabama are eligible for Alabama Differential Tuition, a reduced out-of-state tuition rate.
