UWF’s online Undergraduate Certificate in Chemistry for Laboratory Health Sciences program requires the completion of nine credit hours.
- CHM 2030 - General Chemistry 1 for Laboratory Health Sciences
3 Credit Hours
General Chemistry 1 for Laboratory Health Sciences
This course serves as an introduction to chemical and physical properties, the relationship between observables and concepts and the development of a theoretical framework as these relate to Laboratory Health Sciences. Topics covered include atomic and molecular structure, theories of bonding, properties of the elements and periodicity. This course cannot be used to replace CHM 2045.
- CHM 2031 - General Chemistry 2 for Laboratory Health Sciences
3 Credit Hours
General Chemistry 2 for Laboratory Health Sciences
Continuation of General Chemistry 1 for Laboratory Health Sciences with emphasis on chemical calculations and problem-solving as they relate to Laboratory Health Sciences. Topics include thermodynamics, equilibria, kinetics, and an introduction to transition metal complexes. This course cannot be used to replace CHM 2046.
- CHM 2202 - Organic Chemistry for Laboratory Health Sciences
3 Credit Hours
Organic Chemistry for Laboratory Health Sciences
This course is a continuation of Organic Chemistry for MLS and covers topics related to nomenclature, structure, fundamental reactions, mechanistic interpretation of reactions, and spectroscopy. Nucleophilic and electrophilic substitution reactions, additions, eliminations, redox and rearrangement reactions, carbohydrates, amino acids, peptides, isoprenoids. The lecture course is only for MLS students and requires MLS approval for enrollment. This course does not cover the same content as CHM 2210/L and can not be used as a substitute.

Admission Requirements
To be considered for admission to UWF’s online Chemistry for Laboratory Health Sciences Undergraduate Certificate, you must:
- Be admitted to the University as an undergraduate, non-degree-seeking student
- Complete prerequisites in mathematics for the courses in this program
How to Apply
To be considered for admission to the University of West Florida’s online certificate programs, you must be admitted to the University as a non-degree-seeking student.

- Once accepted as a non-degree-seeking student, students should contact the appropriate advisor for course availability and scheduling
- Complete the online undergraduate certificate declaration form on MyUWF

Tuition waivers cover up to 75% of the non-resident portion of your tuition. These waivers are available to non-Florida residents (including international students) admitted to online programs and registered for online courses in active pursuit of that degree or certificate. Time to completion varies by student, depending on individual progress. Fees are charged per semester unless otherwise noted. This program takes up to 48 months to complete, depending on course availability.

Alabama Differential Out-of-State Tuition
Residents of Alabama are eligible for Alabama Differential Tuition, a reduced out-of-state tuition rate. For more information and to verify residency status for tuition purposes, new undergraduate students should contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and new graduate students should contact the Graduate School. Students who are currently enrolled should contact the Office of the Registrar.
Active Duty Military
All active-duty members of the U.S. military who are residing or are stationed outside the state of Florida shall have all (100%) out-of-state fees waived by the University. Contact the Military & Veterans Resource Center to apply for the Active Duty Military Out-of-State Waiver.
